The Festival of Lights—Hanukkah—is now underway, continuing this year through Monday, December 14th.

While there are, perhaps, more religious holidays in the Jewish faith than any other religion from Yom Kippur to Rosh Hashanah to the Fast of Gedalia, one of the more recognizable celebrations of Jewish tradition is not religious in nature. Rather, Hanukkah celebrates a nation’s heroes and the miracle they experienced!

Throughout the Bible we read of people who took what they had and gave it to God. A shepherd's staff in the hand of Moses became a mighty instrument of deliverance. A sling in the hand of David brought victory over Goliath. A little boy's lunch placed in the hands of Jesus fed thousands of hungry people.

One day, Jesus went through a village where there were 10 men with leprosy. In Bible times, this dreaded disease resulted in complete social isolation. But rather than shunning the ten lepers, Jesus went to them—and miraculously healed them! What an amazing blessing. These men had been given a new hope for life.
